Ben McLachlan has been upset in the first round at the French Open.

Alongside partner Jan-Lennard Struff, the Queenstown doubles specialist was edged 6-7 7-6 6-3 by Marcelo Arevalo and James Cerretani.

The pair started well and the match was even through the first sets.

However, a couple of breaks in the third set for Arevalo and Cerretani proved decisive.

McLachlan and Struff entered the Grand Slam as the 14th seed.

They had successfully paired to reach the semifinals at the Australian Open in January.
