PM's daggy America's Cup celebration

As Kiwi Team NZ fans went crazy this morning even the famously stoic Prime Minister Bill English got excited. Almost.

Mr English took to social media to prove he was following the racing in Bermuda, even donning red socks for the early start.

As Team NZ sailed across the finish line, Mr English was up on his feet in front of his TV, gently exclaiming "Yes ... yes" as Team NZ crossed the finish line.

He then got even more excited and clenched both fists, followed by some hand clapping, later posting a 17-second clip to his Facebook page.

The video provided a rare opportunity to check out Mr English's home, with the camera catching his kitchen and lounge, with the wood fire blazing.

The Prime Minister quickly issued a more orthodox press release, saying: "I would like to congratulate chief executive Grant Dalton, helmsman Peter Burling, skipper Glen Ashby and the rest of the team, both on the boat and on shore.

"They have done an amazing job to beat formidable opposition."

Then he went back to running the country.
