Police were called to the Roll On In Dairy on Sawyers Arms Rd, Bishopdale, at 4.45pm after two people allegedly stole a cash register.
A scene examination has taken place and investigators are in the early stages of the inquiry, a police spokesperson said.
Last night police said the alleged robbers were still on the run.
A staff member at the dairy declined to comment.
