Christchurch Deputy Mayor Andrew Turner says the buck stops with the chief executive in ensuring the city council is open and honest.

Chief Ombudsman Peter Boshier released a critical report last week showing staff felt the executive leadership team withheld negative information from elected officials and the public.

City council bosses were slammed over the alleged "manipulating" of reports before releasing them to elected members and the public.

Cr Turner says the review was carried out during the tenure of former chief executive Karleen Edwards, NewstalkZB reported.

He says he has confidence in new chief executive Dawn Baxendale to address the concerns.
