A police spokesperson said officers were called to the business on Lillian St, Halswell, about 6.20am on Tuesday.
The spokesperson said early reports suggested a number of people had entered the business, then fled before police arrived at the scene.
It was not clear if they were armed or what was teken. One person is understood to have been at the business during the robbery but was uninjured.
