Fleeing driver arrested

A man has been arrested following another police chase in the city on Tuesday.

Police attempted to stop a vehicle about 7:32pm on Montreal St but the driver fled, said a police spokeswoman.

Police followed the vehicle for two minutes, before abandoning the chase due to the manner of driving, she said.

Shortly after, the vehicle was located at the intersection of Cuffs and Wainoni Rds and the driver was arrested.

A 28-year-old man will appear in the district court on October 29, charged with driving in a dangerous manner, failing to stop, and unlawfully taking a motor vehicle.

It comes after North Canterbury man Kenneth McCaul was killed while on his way to work at Christchurch Hospital after a driver fleeing police rammed into a member of the public's car.
