Fleeing teen driver to be released from hospital

A 17-year-old who fled from police in a fatal accident will be released from Christchurch Hospital on Wednesday.

Kenneth McCaul, 64, was killed when the teen driver of a Toyota car failed to stop for police on Papanui Rd on Tuesday morning.

The Toyota smashed into Mr McCaul at the intersection of Idris and Glandovey Rds, while he was on his way to work. 

Police said the other four passengers in the Toyota were teenagers.

They remain in a moderate condition in hospital. 

No arrests have been made, said police.
