Fleetwood Mac fans heading to Dunedin this weekend are being warned to give themselves plenty of time to make their journeys.

The NZ Transport Agency said about one-third third of all ticket holders would be travelling from Christchurch so State Highway 1 would be busy.

The peak travel period was expected to be between 3pm and 6.30pm on Friday, and from 10am on both Saturday (into Dunedin) and Sunday (away from Dunedin),  NZTA Journey Manager Peter Brown said.

He said there could be delays around the Waiareka Bridge south of Oamaru as repairs were being made and a 50kmh limit was in place for a stretch of the highway.
