Liquor shop worker's bold words to alleged robber

A man who allegedly tried to rob a liquor store with a knife left empty-handed after meeting his match.

Joshua James Flutey, a chef from Waltham, appeared in the district court on Tuesday, charged with demands with menace to steal in relation to the incident on October 3 at Henry’s Beer, Wine and Spirits on Moorhouse Ave.

Police allege the 35-year-old walked into the liquor store about 8.45pm and wandered around before carrying a bottle of whiskey to the counter and presenting a knife.

But he was met by a bold staff member, who reportedly told Flutey to go away in no uncertain terms.

“This is a robbery,” the alleged offender said.

The staff member behind the counter replied “f**k off” and Flutey left the store, police said.

He is next due to appear in the district court on November 5.
