Major crash shuts Christchurch road

A person has serious injuries after a crash involving a car and a concrete truck which closed a major Christchurch road on Tuesday.

The crash happened in Mairehau on Queen Elizabeth II Drive between Innes and Philpotts Rds about 3pm.

A St John spokesman said one person was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Queen Elizabeth II Drive was closed from Main North Rd to the Innes Rd roundabout.

Witnesses reported traffic was backed up along Innes and Prestons Rds.

Significant road works are currently taking place in the area as part of the Christchurch Northern Corridor project.
