The man accused of murdering Christchurch man Michael McGrath has been denied bail.

David Charles Benbow appeared in the Christchurch High Court on Tuesday before Justice Edwin Wiley for an application of electronically-monitored bail.

Benbow was charged with murder in September. The former prison guard denied the charges and was previously denied bail in October.

McGrath vanished from his Halswell home on May 21, 2017. His body has not been found in spite of intensive police searches.

Justice Wiley declined the application as there was no suitable address for electronically monitored bail.

The trial on the murder charge is set to take place on February 9 next year.
