Motorists warned to avoid Hoon Hay Rd after crash

Motorists are being told to avoid Christchurch's Hoon Hay Rd this morning after a crash.

Police advised people not to travel on Hoon Hay Rd, between Cashmere Rd and Rose St, while emergency services responded to a collision on Friday morning.

The section of Hoon Hay Rd has been closed and officers are standing guard at each end.

A Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency spokesperson advised motorists to take extra care if intending to use this route.

"The police have advised of a crash on Hoon Hay Rd, between Cashmere Rd & Rose St, we have no further information about this crash at this time."

Earlier this morning, a crash involving a motorcycle and car caused heavy congestion on the Christchurch Northern Motorway (State Highway 1), near the Kainga/Chaneys off-ramp.
