One person injured in Christchurch garage fire

A person was taken to Christchurch Hospital in a serious condition after a garage fire on Sunday.

Fire crews were called to the blaze on Gilberthorpes Rd, Hei Hei, about 6.30pm, a Fire and Emergency NZ spokesperson said.

A St John spokesperson said ambulance staff transported one patient to Christchurch Hospital in a serious condition.

It is understood the person suffered burns.

Firefighters remained at the scene until 9pm.

The cause of the fire had not been determined and a fire investigator will be at the scene on Monday.
