One person was initially trapped in a vehicle on Avonhead Rd and has been taken to Christchurch Hospital.
St John spokesman Gerard Campbell said the person has moderate injuries.
Emergency services were at the scene of the crash which happened about 2.45pm on Monday.
One of the vehicles also hit a power pole and damaged the lines.
