Suspicious vehicle pursuit abandoned by police

When police attempted to pull over a suspicious vehicle on Monday night, the driver took off and led officers on a chase through east Christchurch.

A police spokeswoman said they are investigating the incident after the pursuit in Linwood was abandoned.

She said police attempted to stop the vehicle on Linwood Ave about 8.45pm.

"The vehicle fled from police, and police briefly followed with lights and sirens before abandoning the incident on Buckleys Rd.

"Inquiries are ongoing."

The police Eagle helicopter was not involved in the incident, she said.

It comes after three more police pursuits in Christchurch last week.

On Thursday night, a 43-year-old man was arrested after a chase involving the Eagle helicopter.

The man failed to stop for police on Greers Rd in Bishopdale about 8.45pm.
