Police find people who ran from car after it crashed into river

Police have found the two people who fled after the car they were in crashed through a barrier and into a Christchurch river on Wednesday morning.

Officers were called to the incident off Radley St, Woolston, about 12.30am and found the vehicle in the Heathcote River.

A police spokeswoman said the car appeared to hit a barrier on Ferry Rd, near the Radley St bridge, and land in the river.

A scene guard was in place until the car was removed.
