Two 14-year-old girls arrested after alleged car thefts, property damage

Two 14-year-old girls from Christchurch were taken into custody after an early morning crime spree on Sunday that extended out to Rolleston.

Police said two cars were stolen from the city before 6am. The first was taken from the Hoon Hay area, before it was ditched, and a second car was taken.

Police were then called to an attempted burglary in Rolleston.

Although the offenders fled the scene, they returned and allegedly used the car to damage property.

Senior Sergeant Dean Harker said the two youths went to the Rolleston address to see a friend.

They had an altercation with a relative of their friend at the address, and rammed into a vehicle, which went into the side of the house, causing significant damage to a garage door.

Officers in a police car observed them a short time later, just before 7am on Rolleston Dr, but they failed to stop.

When they eventually came to a stop, the youths were taken into custody.
