Canterbury man killed in rockfall named

Police have released the name of the Canterbury man who died after his vehicle was struck by a falling boulder near Murchison.

He was 58-year-old Robert Hammell of Woodend.

Mr Hammell died when his vehicle was struck by rockfall on SH6 near Murchison on Thursday last week.

Police said they received a report of the incident, some 800m north of O’Sullivans Bridge, about 1.50pm.

Inquiries into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing.
