Motorist dies after single-car crash in North Canterbury

A person has died after a crash in North Canterbury late on Wednesday night.

Emergency services were called to the crash on Tram Rd in West Eyreton near Oxford about 11.10pm.

A police spokesperson said the driver of the vehicle died at the scene.

"At approximately 11.10pm last night, 10 March, emergency services were called to Tram Road, West Eyreton, Oxford, Canterbury for a single vehicle crash.

"Sadly the driver of the vehicle died at the scene.

The police Serious Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances of the crash.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman Mau Barbara said two crews from Rangiora and Cust attended.

No-one was trapped in the vehicle and crews assisted police and St John, he said.
