Mid Canterbury's 11th grade football team played well at the recent Jack McKnight tournament in Nelson and claimed sixth place.

The team won its first game at the three-day tournament 3-2 against FC Nelson, had a second game loss 5-3 to Richmond and then drew 1-1 with Motueka.

The first game on day two was played in rain, but resulted in a 3-1 win against FC Twenty 11. It was followed by a final pool game loss to high flying Waimak United 1-0.

In the crossover match against South Canterbury on Tuesday, the team won 5-3 and then went on to play Motueka for fifth/sixth place. Normal time and extra time couldn't separate the teams, but Motueka claimed victory in the penalty shootout. Striker Sam Chapman scored 11 goals in the 12 team tournament to win the golden boot.
