Ashburton Toy Library is 25 years old and a birthday celebration is being planned for February 1.

The toy library will hold a birthday party during the usual Saturday session (9:30am until 12:30pm) at its Victoria Street base.

At 11am there will be the cutting of the birthday cake and the launch of a new development for the toy library.

As well as members, past toy library committee members and past librarians are warmly invited to come and celebrate the morning tea event.

"If families haven’t been to the toy library for a while, or have yet to go there and see what we have to offer, the birthday party day will be a great day to head along to," said Ashburton Toy Library president Anthea Moore.

All members, including those who join at the birthday party event, would be able to hire three toys for free (up to the value of $12) on February 1, and members hiring toys anytime during the month of February would go into the draw to win a concession card value at $22 for toy hire, she said.

The Ashburton Toy Library Inc is a non-profit community organisation, with its main focus on promoting family interaction through play and the encouragement of free thinking and imagination.

The library collaborates with other community groups such as the MenzShed, and at events, such as Children’s Day, and relies heavily on grant funding and donations. A key supporter is Advance Ashburton.
