It’s also a way to keep people connected and make sure they stay healthy and active in their golden years.
The expo, at Hotel Ashburton on March 5, gives Mid Cantabrians, of any age, information about the wide range of activities, services and agencies available to elderly in the district.
It’s an event held every two years.
Mrs Small said it will showcase to the public what is available to support members of the older community covering social connections, health issues, legal advice and hobby and travel opportunities.
More than 70 stall holders from various organisations and agencies will be on site with a range of information about their services.
There will be exhibits and displays, a chance to have social connections with others, there will be a mix of light refreshments and raffles available on site, and every person who attends goes in the draw to win a surprise draw of show tickets to either Menopause The Musical, or The Look of Love with Ali Harper, donated by The Ashburton Trust Event Centre.
The expo, which has a gold coin entry and runs from 10am to 3pm, will be spread across one large venue, spanning four rooms.
It is on one level and has plenty of parking access.
She said it was a great opportunity for people, and family members of older people, to learn what was on offer in the district and she encouraged people to come along.
