The tour, which started on January 17 at the Nelson Kite Festival, will visit Lake Hood Sunday before heading to the North Island. Organisers said on Facebook that the Lake Hood leg of the tour will be the Ashburton Fun Fly. It runs from 1pm to 5pm. People are encouraged to come out to the lake, bring their own kites and join the fun.
"There will be all different types of kites from hand painted kites through to giant inflatable whales, dragons, mermaids.’’ Whether it’s traditional kites, inflatable kites of teddy bears, penguins or movie characters of all shapes and sizes, there is bound to be something in the sky to entertain all ages of people.
"Grab your own kite and join in, or just come down for a look."
