An impressive new playground has been added at Longbeach School, but it’s been three years in the funding.

The new playground is located near the school tennis courts and has been funded through proceeds from the Longbeach Challenge, which the school helps run, and from a Lotteries Commission grant of $24,000.

School principal Neil Simons said the new playground had cost around $51,000.

Part of the school’s proceeds from the Longbeach Challenge over the last three years had been put aside and used to part fund the project.

Installation had been relatively quick and some 75m3 of bark chip had been put down.

Over the years, proceeds from the Longbeach Challenge had enabled the school to purchase audiovisual equipment and a hitting wall, and had also helped with staffing costs, pool maintenance and IT equipment.

The new school playground is aimed at students aged eight years and older.
