Three new trustees, all with differing backgrounds and international roots, have joined the group overseeing the running of successful Ashburton event Multi Cultural Bite.

Ximena Puig, Mirian Florez and Tumanu JR Paiaaua have all been offering input, oversight and sharing the workload of organising Bite over the past few months.

Uruguay born Ximena Puig holds French citizenship and as well speaking her native Spanish, is also fluent in French and English.

She has a degree in architecture and moved to New Zealand two years ago after a long-distance relationship with her partner, who is a New Zealand resident.

Mirian Florez is originally from Colombia and worked as an animal scientist in her former homeland.

She and her husband arrived in New Zealand 12 years ago and both are now citizens.

Mrs Florez retrained as a primary school teacher and lives and works in Ashburton.

Tumanu JR Paiaaua is of Samoan descent and was born and raised in Lower Hutt.

She had worked in adult education, as a volunteer in community development and has championed community-led initiatives.

She has held governance roles, served as a public servant and is heavily involved with her church.

The trio join Thelma Bell, Selwyn Price, Rohini Sukul and Marion Bartlett as trustees on the Ashburton Multicultural Trust.
