A 50-year-old Fernside garden will host the Christmas Country Fete on October 31.

Lyddington was created by rosarian Sally Allison out of a bare paddock, with ''huge help and support'' from her late husband, Bey, an engineer.

The fete, just 15 minutes from Rangiora, will include more than 160 stalls, selling mainly stallholder-made products.

Mike Sheppard, of Hyde Park Hire, which runs the fete, says the aim of moving to Lyddington is to make the fete a great day out for visitors who will be able to wander around the garden, enjoy the food and entertainment, and revel in the great shopping.

The wine and food area has been enhanced. There will be a Christmas Cooking demonstration with Tina and Katie Duncan, from White Tie Catering.

The Starlets - Sarah Greenwood, Sarah Kelly and Georgia Gumbley - who make up one of New Zealand's leading professional song and dance trios, will entertain.

It all adds up to a ''blissful day out'', Mike says.

''We aim to make the fete a great day out, rather than people just getting in a car to go shopping,'' he says.

Hyde Park Hire bought the fete in early 2017, and announced its new home earlier this year, after holding it for the past two years at the Glenmark Domain at Waipara.

The new site provides plenty of space for people to shop and enjoy the wine and food or non-alcoholic drinks, with lots of great trees spread throughout the area for shade and atmosphere.

There is an area directly opposite with plenty of parking, and a great mobility park right behind the stalls.

Parking is free, with the gates to the fete open from 10am to 4pm.

General admission is $22.80 online. On the day, it is $25.

Tickets can be bought at thefete.co.nz.
