The annual Waiau Community Fireworks display is community driven and community focused.

When the night sky lights up about 9.30pm on Saturday, November 9, it will be the result of efforts by a hardworking committee, businesses, and others who have swung in behind it to help fund the pyrotechnic display and night out.

The event, which has been running for 27 years, kicks off at 5pm when the gates open to the Waiau Rugby Club grounds.

As the community and visitors count down to darkness for the display to begin, there will be plenty of food, children's entertainment, including zorbs, a bouncy castle, bumper balls, a balloon show, glitter tattoos, glow sticks, and pony rides.

There will also be live music and plenty of entertainment throughout the evening.

The fireworks are a quality display, but organisers keep the entry price down thanks to sponsorship.

The community committee which runs the much-loved event has introduced a tiered sponsorship system over the past couple of years.

Display chairwoman Kerry Florance says a huge number of local and district businesses have swung in behind the event to ensure it is a great night out.

Admission is $10 per person or $40 per car (maximum of seven).
