A motorbike rider has died after crashing into a tree in Kaiapoi, Canterbury.
Emergency teams rushed to the crash site at Williams St after being called about 3.10pm.
The tree caught fire and blocked Williams St, a police spokeswoman said.
Police were now diverting traffic while serious crash investigators had been asked to attend also.
