Narrow victory for district councillor

The final results for the Selwyn District Council elections have been released.

Selwyn District Council hopeful Sophie McInnes has held onto her narrow election majority.

Mrs McInnes was seven votes ahead of her closest rival Michelle Jones in the race to represent the Selwyn Central Ward.

Final results released on Thursday show Mrs McInnes has finished 13 votes ahead and will join district councillors Grant Miller, Debra Hasson, Malcolm Lyall, Murray Lemon, Nicole Reid, Mark Alexander and Jeff Bland alongside newcomers Shane Epiha and Jenny Gallagher. 

This is Mrs McInnes first time running for council. 

No changes have been made from the provisional results which were released on Sunday.

Mayor Sam Broughton kept his position, winning with a landslide 12,041 votes, more than 50 per cent higher than his only rival Bill Woods (4485 votes).
