Police said they received a report of a tramper who was several days overdue from a track in Hopkins Valley, north of Lake Ohau.
Police Search and Rescue had been advised of the situation.
At 12.50pm, the tramper was located; however their exact location had not been pinpointed, she said.
No further information was yet available, due to the lack of communication at the scene, she said.
