Three injured in Canterbury campground incident

Three people have been injured in an incident at a campground near Lake Benmore in the South Island's Mackenzie Basin.

St John ambulance said three people were taken to hospital with moderate injuries after a fire at Haldon Arm before midnight on Saturday.

Two were flown by helicopter to Christchurch Hospital and one driven to Timaru Hospital.

However, Fire and Emergency said it attended the scene as assistance only, would not confirm there had been any fire, and referred all questions to St John.

Police said they have not been told of any incident at the camp.
