In the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra’s The Art of the Chamber Orchestra concert scheduled for September 23, flutist Hannah Darroch will be performing for the first time in her new role as the orchestra’s principal flute.

Darroch's back in New Zealand after four years of study at McGill University in Montreal.

RNZ's Cynthia Morahan caught up with Darroch shortly after she received news of the appointment.

Darroch will be involved with the CSO's award-winning Community Engagement programme, which aims to remove barriers to classical music by offering a wide range of opportunities and experiences for people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to engage with the orchestra and enjoy live orchestral music.

The Art of the Chamber Orchestra concert is on Wednesday, September 23, 7pm, at the Ron Ball Studio, Christchurch Town Hall.
