Two hikers on a back country expedition in Mt Aspiring National Park have been rescued by Wanaka Search and Rescue after one slipped and injured their knee.
SAR spokesman Bill Day said they received the call about 5pm on Wednesday, after the pair activated a locator beacon on the Olivine Ice Plateau.
A helicopter was sent, carrying a two-person volunteer cliff alpine rescue team, who found one person had damaged knee ligaments, Mr Day said.
