One person has been hurt in a helicopter crash while carrying out agricultural work on the Mahia Peninsula and has been flown to Gisborne Hospital.
Emergency services were alerted to the incident involving a Robinson 44 aircraft at 6.25am today in the remote part of Hawke's Bay by a member of the public.
The pilot was the only person on board and suffered moderate injuries, a St John ambulance spokesperson said.
Police said the incident happened "right on the peninsula" and that the closest road they have been given is off Mahia East Coast Road.
The Rescue Coordination Centre NZ is coordinating the response to the crash.
It said the pilot was carrying out agricultural work at the time and RCCNZ received an alert from the aircraft's distress beacon at 6am.
The pilot has been flown to Gisborne Hospital by the Hastings Rescue Helicopter.
Fire and Emergency NZ, police and St John also attended the scene.
Civil Aviation Authority has been made aware of the crash.
The crash happened a day after a fatal crash involving a helicopter at a beach, north of Kaikoura. Two adults died and three children were badly injured.
