The Mainland Pride continue their march towards the women's national league minor premiership after a 4-1 win over Capital on Saturday.

The Pride have won seven of their eight games and sit six points clear at the top of the table.

The Pride were only one goal up at the break on their trip to Capital after Nicola Dominikovich found the net but the second half belonged to the visitors as Gabi Rennie made it two before Britney-Lee Nicholson helped herself to a double, taking her season tally to nine in the process.

The Canterbury United men's team started their national league campaign with a tough 1-0 loss to defending champions Eastern Suburbs, on Sunday.

Under new coach Lee Padmore the Dragons gave as good as they got on their trip to Auckland but returned empty-handed as a fine second-half header from Jake Mechell proved enough for Suburbs to begin their maiden title defence with a win.
