Two Taranaki rugby legends have welcomed the Ranfurly Shield back to the province.

1996 Shield winners, Kevin "Smiley" Barrett and Andy Slater, were at New Plymouth Airport yesterday morning to meet their sons Beauden and Jordie Barrett and Bradley Slater who helped the Amber and Blacks wrestle the Log o' Wood away from Canterbury.

RNZ sports reporter Brenton Vannisselroy caught up with Taranaki captain Teihorangi Walden shortly after he carried the Shield off the plane.
