The image of the boot scootin’ dancer is getting a modern remix as the Dunedin Line Dance Gala brings more than 300 participants to the Edgar Centre next week.

Gala secretary Michelle Barron said following the "smashing success” of the 2024 event, the committee was "bringing the magic back to the city with an all-star lineup”.

"We are delighted to welcome an impressive lineup of dance instructors and judges for the weekend."

These include Crystal Boot Award winner Jamie Barnfield, of the UK, Stephen Paterson, Simon Ward, Joshua Talbot and Luke Watson, of Australia and Jaime Ngawaka and Laressa Frost, of New Zealand. The gala runs from Thursday, February 12 to Saturday, February 14 and will include a variety of styles.

The dance form has evolved beyond its traditional roots and enthusiasts now perform to a wide range of music genres, including rock ‘n’ roll, Irish, pop and country.

"You name it, we dance to it. This diversity means there is something to suit every musical taste, with dancers gravitating towards the styles and dances they enjoy most.”

Spectators can watch the display at the Edgar Centre’s More FM Arena on Saturday, February 14, from 11am. For those inspired to join in, absolute beginner classes start at the Fairfield Community Hall on Tuesday, March 3.
