The Dunedin Senior Chinese Association is hosting a traditional Chinese dumpling-making event on Saturday, from 11.30am to 1.30pm at Dunedin Community House, Level 6.

In a statement, Dunedin Senior Chinese Association president Weidi Xu said making dumplings stemmed from the tradition that the Winter Solstice was "as important as the New Year", implying the purpose of driving away the cold, keeping warm, welcoming the return of yang energy and praying for health and safety.

Although the winter solstice is not until June, she said eating a plate of hot dumplings in the coming winter can also drive away the cold, and warm the body and keep healthy." — APL
