Taieri Network kaihono hapori (community connector) Teresa Christie said the event for 12-18-year-olds aimed to provide a safe, fun space to hang out with friends and learn some new skills during the school holidays.
The style will be like a mini expo with the opportunity to connect with organisations including Southern Youth Development, Volunteer South, Deaf Aotearoa and the Dunedin Youth Council.
Youth will get the opportunity to complete the Dunedin City Council youth survey, make poi with Te Whare Tapa Whā ō Taieri, get their hair braided, enjoy art and craft, play board games or find a quiet corner to read a book.
There will be the chance to play Megazone’s Laser Tag or participate in games of cricket and other outdoor activities with Sport Otago.
A highlight will be a visit by legally blind cartoonist Brent Harpur, of Oamaru, who has worked with neurodiverse children and adults.
He will be drawing caricatures during the morning and holding some lessons after lunch.
The hui is free and food is provided, including Subway for lunch and and treats such as hot chocolate with marshmallows, cream, chocolate chips and sprinkles.
