Glenfalloch Restaurant and Gardens
Spend your day at one destination
Only 15 minutes’ drive from the Octagon, Glenfalloch can accommodate your entire wedding day. Picture canapés on the lawn before your wedding ceremony, relaxed guests then watching while your photographer guides you around the gardens. And, when you’re ready, transition into your reception by simply stepping inside the newly refurbished Chalet restaurant.
A quick drive – or boat
Glenfalloch’s proximity to Dunedin makes it a convenient, inexpensive and attractive taxi trip for guests. Better still, weather permitting, arrange for guests to boat across the harbour to Glenfalloch’s jetty.
Relaxed garden setting
A garden of national significance, Glenfalloch’s 12ha of trees, gardens and lawn provide a private and stunning backdrop for all aspects of your wedding day.
Glenfalloch, Gaelic for “hidden valley”, was established in 1871 as a gentleman’s country residence. Englishman George Russell bought the property while in New Zealand furthering his mercantile business. It is thanks to him that Glenfalloch boasts its magnificent collection of oak, walnut, elm and English beech trees.
Today, the garden’s maturity means photographers are spoilt for choice when it comes to both lighting and backdrops. Its extensive area includes rhododendron dells, New Zealand natives and rose gardens, as well as the large historic trees. Beyond the garden, views of the harbour extend all the way to Taiaroa Head.
Glenfalloch is a genuine four-seasons garden, each season distinguished by its own colours and fragrances. And, by virtue of its position on the north side of the peninsula, the garden enjoys all-day sun and is sheltered from prevailing winds.
The Chalet restaurant
The Chalet restaurant has been refurbished during 2014 and you will find a light, open and modern venue, overlooking the gardens and harbour.
The space can cater for up to 140 guests and its open-plan layout means it can be configured to suit nearly any seating requirements. A marquee can be added to cater for larger crowds
A large stone fireplace, extensive deck area and sheltered courtyard contribute to make the Chalet a space where guests can relax and find a comfortable spot to catch up with friends and family.
The restaurant’s menu was also refreshed this year to showcase Otago’s fresh produce and, of course, the region’s world-class wines. Glenfalloch’s friendly and experienced staff are happy to work with you to develop a menu that suits your taste and budget.
