Mosgiel-Taieri Community Board

Simon Henderson looks at highlights from the Mosgiel-Taieri Community Board.

Taieri trail update

The Dunedin Tracks Network Trust updated the Mosgiel-Taieri Community Board on plans for the Taieri Trail cycleway.

The trust aimed to make Dunedin and Mosgiel a hub for cycling in the Taieri area, connecting existing trails and linking Mosgiel to Waihola and the Clutha Gold Trail.

The project required pre-build costs, including resource consents and construction design.

The board approved a $2000 funding application to support these costs, which will help bring the trail to life and provide economic and recreational benefits to the community.

Submission on LTP

The board agreed it would make a submission to the Dunedin City Council Draft Annual Plan and the Otago Regional Council Draft Long Term Plan.

After discussion regarding making a submission on the DCC consultation on the proposal to sell Aurora Energy, the board agreed not to make a submission to the Aurora Energy Proposal but encouraged the community to make submissions on this proposal.

New developments in the area

As the fastest growing area of Dunedin, the future of Mosgiel and Taieri has been a key component of the Dunedin City Council and the Otago Regional Council future development strategy hearings.

In his chairman’s report Andrew Simms highlighted submitters at the hearings had discussed a proposal for an inland freight hub, increased industrial development in Dukes Rd, a new 300-unit retirement village near Wingatui and several urban developments around Mosgiel.
