Safe parking urged

The Dunedin City Council is urging parents, supporters and coaches to be mindful of their parking during winter sports fixtures.

With an increase in drivers attending weekend games, sports grounds become congested, putting pressure on surrounding streets.

The council is tackling complaints about dangerous and illegal parking and asks everyone to park considerately to ensure safety.

It asks drivers to not park across driveways, footpaths, broken yellow lines, grass verges, clearways and bus stops.

New drop-off zones are available at Eglinton Rd Montecillo, Christie St at Miller Park, and Princes St at the Oval.

The sports community can help by car-pooling, walking, catching the bus, or cycling to nearby matches.

The council’s parking enforcement team will be monitoring sports venues to ensure drivers are parking responsibly.
