"Significant traffic congestion" has built up on State Highway 1 in Ashburton after a truck crash blocked a busy intersection.
Police said the truck has caused damage to a rail crossing and has blocked the intersection of East and Kermode Sts.
"Motorists are asked to avoid the area. Diversions are in place while the crossing is repaired."
