About 110 helpers lent a hand and 385 banana boxes full of non-perishable goods were collected at the Toot For Tucker event.

The 19th Toot For Tucker once again received an "amazing response'' from the community and a real team effort, said Ashburton County Lions membership director Jackie Ryan.

Foodbanks run by the Salvation Army, St Vincent de Paul and Presbyterian Support would once again benefit from the generosity of the community.

Mrs Ryan said helpers aged from eight to 80 had been involved in collecting, sorting and boxing the collected items.

Any bags missed in the pick up can be dropped off to the Property Brokers office on West St.
