2035 new Covid cases in NZ; two more deaths in Canterbury

There are 2035 new community cases of Covid-19 in New Zealand today, and 12 more people have died with the disease.

There are 273 people in hospital with the virus, including three in intensive care.

The Ministry of Health said the 12 Covid-related deaths today included one person in their 20s. Of the others, one was in their 60s, three were in their 70s, five were in their 80s and two people were aged over 90.

Seven were from Auckland, one was from Waikato, one was from Bay of Plenty, one was from Taranaki and two were from Canterbury.

Meanwhile, there are 273 cases in hospital, including three people in ICU.

There are 262 new cases across Canterbury today, and 49 people in hospital with the virus.

In a statement, the ministry said the total number of deaths in New Zealand attributed to the virus was 1933.

In the past seven days, there has been an average of seven deaths confirmed each day as being attributable to Covid-19.
