Six Christchurch fire crews were required to extinguish a blaze at Verkerks factory store.
A Christchurch factory store caught fire overnight, requiring half a dozen fire crews to contain the blaze.

A Fire and Emergency NZ spokeswoman said they received calls about a fire at Verkerks on Vagues Rd, Papanui, about midnight.

The family business, which started in Christchurch decades ago, is well-known for its range of salami and other cured meats.

The fire was under control by about 2.15am. No one is believed to have been inside the premises when the fire broke out at the rear of a large cool store.

Investigators were trying to determined the cause of the fire today, initially it was not considered suspicious.
