Police charge man after woman shot in Christchurch

A 38-year-old man has been charged after a woman was shot in Christchurch on Saturday.

The man was expected to appear in the Christchurch District Court on Monday, facing charges of wounding with intent to injure and unlawfully using a firearm.

He has also been charged with assault on a female for an offence relating to a different incident, a police spokeswoman said.

Police were called to the Strickland St property in Spreydon about 3.10pm after a person reported hearing a gunshot.

The victim, who is recovering, had already been taken to hospital when emergency services arrived.

Police officers armed with rifles, a dog unit and an armed response team were seen outside the Strickland Rd property.
