A big thank you. That is the message to readers from the parents of Living With a Brain Tumour columnist Trudi Johnston after a book they put together on the life of their late daughter sold out.

Trudi started writing what became a hugely popular weekly wrote column for The Star in 2004 up until her death in 2006, courageously detailing her battle with cancer.

Her parents Pat and Jock Johnston put out the book last year on the back of a two-and-a-half-year project, compiling all of her columns among the other aspects of Trudi’s life.

They have sold 350 copies and donated proceeds from the sale as well as donations to CanTeen, the organisation which supports teenagers with cancer.

CanTeen has benefited by $2700.

Said Pat and Jock: "You (readers) have helped all this happen and we hope reading of her battle has helped you in your life’s journey.

"It is very heart-warming for us to know that Trudi’s diary is once again inspiring so many people, because as she often said: ‘All I want is for my life to have made a difference’.

"When we started, our aim was to get Trudi’s story ‘out there’ again to provide some inspiration to anyone fighting their own life’s challenges.

"Plus we had the hope that we could also raise some funds for  CanTeen from the book sales.

"CanTeen was such a big part of Trudi’s life.”

Books have also been donated to CanTeen and the Cancer Society, the Christchurch and Oamaru public libraries and Trudi’s primary and high schools in Oamaru.
