Rolleston Residents Association members have taken their battle to have the word library included in the name Te Ara Ātea to councillors.
They believe just having the name Te Ara Ātea on its own is confusing to newcomers, a stance they have received both support and criticism for.
Association chair Moneel Pratap and vice-chair Jens Christensen spoke at the public forum segment of the Selwyn District Council’s fortnightly 1pm meeting last week.
They asked district councillors to add the word library to all signage for the one-year-old $22.7 million Te Ara Ātea building on Tennyson St.
The approach to councillors comes after staff declined the association’s request earlier this year.
Te Ara Ātea is a library and multi-use community facility, which replaced the former Rolleston Library.
Meaning “the unobstructed trail to the world and beyond”, the name was gifted to the community by Te Taumutu Rūnanga.
