Auckland man facing terror charge

An Auckland man has become the second person in NZ's legal history to be charged with terrorism after the alleged Christchurch mosque shooter.

The man, who is in his 30s and has interim name suppression, was in the High Court at Auckland on Wednesday morning facing the charge made under the Terrorism Suppression Act 2002.

"He considers it a fake charge," the man's lawyer Belinda Sellars, QC, said.

Further details about the case cannot be reported by the New Zealand Herald due to suppression orders.

Justice Paul Davison remanded the man in custody to reappear in April.
